Definition — the two flagship platforms compared
Carrier Infinity vs Lennox Signature: both offer modulating burners, variable-speed inverter compressors, ECM blowers, and communicating thermostats. Peak specifications overlap heavily.
Lennox Signature Collection tends to publish slightly higher peak SEER2 ratings on its top AC and heat-pump models. Carrier Infinity tends to publish equal or slightly better cold-climate heat-pump numbers on some models.
Both platforms require matched-brand equipment to unlock full communicating features — mixing brands strips the system back to two-stage compatibility.
When Carrier wins
Broader dealer network in Ontario — parts availability and service coverage is generally excellent GTA-wide. If continuity of service network matters (rentals, snowbird homes), Carrier has a slight edge.
Cold-climate heat pump lineup — Carrier's cold-climate models have been well-received in Canadian testing environments.
Homeowners who value the Carrier reputation and the widest range of dealer options.
When Lennox wins
Peak-efficiency shopping — Lennox Signature Collection's headline SEER2 numbers are usually best-in-class, if the marginal efficiency actually matters for your load.
Quiet operation — Lennox's outdoor condensers are consistently among the quietest available, useful for tight lots or bedrooms near the outdoor unit.
Homeowners who value engineering-forward design and are willing to pay the premium band.
Failure modes — the shared traps
Both platforms fall down the same way: sold as a communicating system but installed with a generic third-party thermostat because the customer wanted to keep their Ecobee. The premium is wasted; the system reverts to two-stage.
Both platforms need registered warranties. Both need matching evaporator coils to hold the published SEER2 — mixing a new premium condenser with a 15-year-old coil throws the rating out the window.
Both benefit dramatically from a real Manual J load calculation. Neither can compensate for an oversized install.
Proof — how to decide between the two
Get two matched-tier quotes (say, both Infinity- vs Signature-level) from installers who quote both brands. Compare: install cost, published SEER2/HSPF2 on the specific models, warranty terms, and — critically — whether both installers propose the same-tier thermostat.
In our experience across the GTA, the installer's quality dominates the brand difference for the top three tiers. Pick the installer first, then choose between the brands they carry.
Action — Metroheat carries both
Metroheat installs and services both Carrier and Lennox across the GTA. We'll quote both if you ask, put the numbers on the same page, and tell you the honest engineering trade-offs without pushing one over the other.
